Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Environmental Fieldwork

Fieldwork has inherent risks that can be mitigated however often risk managers and institutional policy focuses on objective physical risk like falling into a river - but generally there is little emphasis on non-physical risks. Similarly, there is little consideration of how these policies may interact with individual fieldworkers protected characteristics, e.g. disability or LGTBQ+. Thus in this project, we aimed to understand how Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is incorporated into institutional fieldwork policy and risk assessments in environmental sciences. In order to give recommendations for the development of new fieldwork policy and risk assessment guidelines.
